Hayle Runners at Helston for An Res Hellys

53 runners from Hayle joined a total field of 291 on Sunday 14th April to take on the 10 mile multi-terrain An Res Hellys race, which starts and finishes in Helston and is organised by Carn Runners as part of the Cornwall GP series. The route takes participants through the National

Trust Penrose Estate, along the coast, and across Loe Bar. A lone piper stationed at the end of the beach gave everyone a much-appreciated boost before the hill up to Gunwalloe. From there, the runners headed inland, passing RNAS Culdrose before descending back into Helston for the finish.

The Hayle contingent put in a very strong performance. Emma Paull did phenomenally well to come in as 3rd woman overall! In addition, the Women’s and Men’s team both took second place. The men’s team was comprosied of Jacob Gardner, Dominic Turton, Liam O’Neill, Steven Wherry, Simon Jeffs, and Scott Abraham. Emma Paull, Lucy Paull, Debbie Harrison-Webb, Julie Towers, Fiona Gamble and Lia Foreman made up the women’s team.

“While the sun was shining on Helston nearly a dozen Hayle Runners managed course PB’s, and with some of our “Big Guns” away at other races, or resting from niggles the club was proud to bring back two 2nd places from the mens and ladies teams. Especially impressive was the performances from the runners that were out racing the day before and still finished with either team placings or age category prizes.”
