Hayle Runners July roundup

As summer (allegedly) got into full swing, runners from the club were still travelling far and wide to represent the green army at a variety of events. There may have been fewer races completed overall, but that was more than made up for by the amount of mileage covered across multiple ultramarathon distances this month.

A sizeable contingent of Hayle Runners headed to the South Downs on July 6th to race in a number of distances – from 10K to 100K! – of Serpent Trail races. These races all take in varying amounts of the stunning scenery of the South Downs National Park along the Serpent Trail – with the 100K race completing the route of the trail in its entirety.

Jennie Massey completed the 10K race in 1:30:54

Diane Warren completed the 20K option in 1:59:38, with Graham Merrett completing the same distance in 2:13:02

Taking on the 50K race were…

Sarah Allen 6:31:19
Chris Brown 4:49:44
Ian Curnow 4:54:51
Jon Eldon 5:20:57
Paul Gough 5:25:25
Nick Kelly 7:34:25
Trish Merrett 6:10:34
Sharon Rowat 8:32:11

Joe Beer and Debbie Mitchell completed the full 100K in 15:22:34 and 15:22:35 respectively!

On the 26th of July, Ian Seabury, Melissa Nicholas, and Neil Hayhurst travelled to the Lake District to take part in the Lakeland 100 Mile ultramarathon. This is a spectacular long distance trail race encompassing the whole of the lakeland fells, including around 6300m of ascent and run almost entirely on public bridleways and footpaths.

Unfortunately Melissa and Neil both took the decision to retire before the end of the race, but not before completing a very impressive chunk of mileage! Ian completed the entire 100 mile race in 39:17:55.

There were undoubtedly more runners taking part in July events than are listed here, so a huge well done to anybody else who donned the green vest and we look forward to seeing what everybody gets up to in August!
