As ever, August saw the Green Army showing up in droves for local Grand Prix and MTRS races. But when we weren’t doing that, we were travelling far and wide and getting stuck into a huge variety of races. From local 5Ks to international triathlons and everything in between, here’s what Hayle Runners got up to in August…
The RAT
Saturday 3rd saw a group in action on the Roseland peninsula, taking on a variety of distances at the RAT (Roseland August Trail) Trail & Ultra Running Festival. This celebration of all things off-road had routes ranging from 11 miles to 64 miles, and there was Hayle representation in all of them. With the races taking place along the South West Coast Path between St Anthony Head on the Roseland Peninsula and Porthpean in St Austell Bay, runners had to take on technical terrain including stiles, gates, rocks, steps, and hills.
The runners who took on the challenge included:
The RAT – White (11 Miles):

This half marathon (or thereabouts, depending on whether you get cut off by the sea!) starts on Tresco before heading across to Merrick Island through knee-deep water. The route then heads back to Tresco and around the entirety of the coast, across a sand bar for a loop of Bryher, and then back to Tresco. Margaret completed over 10 miles of the stunning route in 2:17:42.
Trail du Mont Blanc Ultrmarathon
On the 30th, Sophie Howard set out on the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, a 176KM ultramarathon with over 9,900 metres of elevation!
