The Green Army were incredibly busy in September so this month’s roundup is a mammoth one. From overseas marathons to trail races on the coast path, check out what our members got up to in September:
The month got off to a strong start on the first with Debbie Harrison Webb in Somerset taking part in the Bridgwater half marathon.
The following weekend saw a handful of people travelling to Newcastle for the Great North Run. Those members were:
Amy Abraham: 2:39:48
Jane Barker: 1:43:06
Innes McCartney: 02:33:54
Plus a mystery fourth runner who also did brilliantly even if we don’t have their name to hand…
The day after, Sharon Rowat (02:42:36) and Alison Thomas (02:21:00) completed the Bacchus Half Marathon in Surrey. This involves fancy dress and several wine and cheese stops, where participants are encouraged to linger rather than running straight through. The dream scenario.
The 14th saw several runners in Tehidy to take part in The Woods. Our runners all took on the ‘Rowan’ challenge, which involved completing as many laps of a four-mile course as possible in three hours. Those who took part were:
Michelle Fitt – 7 Laps (Michelle was also first woman for the Rowan overall)
Stuart Smith – 7 Laps
Hannah White – 4 Laps
On the following day, there was Hayle representation in several out of county (and out of country) races.
Curtis Hayes was in Wales, where he completed the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon in 01:41:16.
Lee Burford completed the Copenhagen Half Marathon in 1:33:13.
And Beth Elkin was in Richmond taking part in her first ever half marathon. Not only did she complete her first race of this distance, but she did it in a phenomenal time of 1:45:12 and won her 16-17 age category.
Di Warren, Nicki Carter, and Thomas Rosenfeld swapped the land for the water and completed Swim Serpentine in London’s Hyde Park. This also earned them all an extra London Classics medal for having completed the London Marathon, the Ride London cycle race and the Serpentine swim.
The 21st saw Jacob Gardner in action at the Oslo Marathon, which he completed in 2:41:03, setting a new PB.
At the same time, a handful of Hayle Runners were running Man Up & Down, a 20K trail run along the coast path from Portreath to Perranporth in support of Man Down. They encountered some very tough conditions on the day including thunder and lightning. Those runners were:
Hels Cattran: 3:30:09
Michelle Fitt: 2:37:24
Paul Gough: 2:04:32
On the 22nd, Hannah White completed the Doone Run in 3:20:05.
This is a 10-mile trail run within Exmoor National Park on a challenging course including coastal paths, woodland and river banks.
Kelly Bills was also racing on the 22nd. She took part in the Robin Hood 100, which is a 100-mile ultramarathon on the trails in and around Sherwood Forest. Kelly completed the race in 29:33.
On the same day, several of the Green Army were also closer to home taking part in the 5K and 10K distances of Run Mawnan. Those runners were:
10K:
Chris Campbell: 56:28
Lee Tullett: 48:23
5K:
Sue Durrant: 36:00
Edward Ford: 23:48
James Manning: 20:32
The following weekend saw Sonny Mangion taking part in the Belfast Half Marathon, which he completed in 1:56:11.
Jon Savage also took part in the Godolphin 10K on the same day, where he took third place overall.
The 29th was apparently a good day for marathon running as several people completed that distance:
Ed Bennett (2:54:43) and Andrew Paroissien (2:47:46) both completed the Barnstaple marathon.
Andrea Simmons was in Germany completing the Berlin marathon in 3:51:43.
And Steve Maclaren (4:08:58) and Trish Merrett (4:29:30) were both up in Scotland running the Loch Ness marathon.
A huge well done to everybody who took part in events in September, and we’ll see you all back here for the October roundup, which is already looking like it’ll be another bumper one.
