Hayle Runners January roundup

We might be in the depths of winter, but it takes more than a bit of cold weather to stop the Green Army from getting out and about and taking part in events! January saw Hayle runners competing in everything from 5ks to ultramarathons both at home and abroad.

We begin on the 12th of January, with Emily Claire taking part in the Derek Larner Memorial Run, which is a 5k in the balmy Cayman Islands. The temperature was around 26 degrees and we’re not jealous at all…

On the 18th, Hannah White and Jared Sanderson both competed in various distances of the Purple Gecko Tehidy Twilight Run. This involves a trail run through the woods after dark – spooky. Hannah completed the 5K distance in 35:31, while Jared took on the 10K distance and finished in 1:03:54.

The same weekend, on the 19th of January, saw Curtis Hayes in Cheshire to take on the EET Four Villages Half Marathon. This is a road race through beautiful countryside, passing through the villages of Dunham on the Hill, Mouldsworth, Manley, Alvanley and Helsby. Curtis completed the route in 1:44:25

The following weekend saw lots of Hayle Runners braving various distances of the UTMB Arc of Attrition. These trail events see competitors tackling some of the Cornwall’s finest coastal paths in tough and challenging winter conditions, covering distances from 25 to 100 miles!

Jenny Buckland – 25 miles – 06.54.15
Michelle Fitt – 25 miles – 06.06.35
Yelda Müge Parsons – 25 miles – 07.24.15
Susan Thomas – 25 miles – 06.54.15
Hannah White – 25 miles – 07.39.50

While covering the distance from the Minack Theatre to Porthtowan were:

Ben Ferris – 50 miles – 14.49.15
Neil Hayhurst – 50 miles – 12.07. 44
Charles Simpson – 50 miles – 14.47.46

In addition, Jake Summers put in a phenomenal effort and completed the full 100 miles, which took him from Coverack all the way to Porthtowan. He finished in 31.41.17.

In addition to those running, there were lots of members out on the course as ‘Arc Angels’ to marshal the event which is tiring in itself, so well done to those hardy souls as well.

Congratulations to everybody who took part in any events this month – as ever, there are sure to be some that aren’t mentioned here. We can’t wait to see what you get up to in February.
