First place for the ladies team at Looe

Looe 10 miler was still hillish but a little less hellish than usual thanks to the beautiful sunshine on Sunday 2nd March, and 24 members of the Green Army travelled up to take part.

The race, organised by Looe Pioneers, takes runners through West Looe and out towards Talland on the coastal road. This is followed by a loop around the Killigarth, Porthallow area, before heading back down to Talland and the last stretch before the finish.

The women’s team put in a phenomenal effort to take first place. A huge well done to Melissa Nicholas, Fiona Gamble, Julie Towers, Andrea Simmons, Zoe Renowden, and Corinne Gerrard.

The men’s team also put in a brilliant effort, bringing home fourth place. That team was made up of Liam O’Neill, Neil Hayhurst, Kieran Murrant, Jon Eldon, Dominic Turton, and David Wilding.

Lots of Hayle runners also came home with age category prizes. Those runners were:

Women 35-40 – Melissa Nicholas – 2nd
Women 40-44 – Fiona Gamble – 3rd
Women 50-54 – Corinne Gerrard – 3rd
Women 60-64 – Julie Towers – 2nd
Women 70-74 – Andrea Simmons – 1st
Women 70-74 – Diane Warren – 2nd
Men 60-64 – Jon Eldon – 1st

It’s a testament to their determination and recent training. The men also gave their all, finishing in a strong 3rd place behind some very strong efforts from both Truro and St Austell running clubs.”
