Hayle Runners March roundup

With a Grizzly effort from some and a ‘buen esfuerzo’ in Barcelona from our globe-trotting members, March was a busy month for Hayle Runners.

Starting the month with impressive flair, Julia Burns took the position of 1st lady, coming 4th overall at the Tiverton 10k on March 2nd.

Elsewhere in the UK that day, Luke Bradford completed the Brighton half marathon.

On March 6th the Looe 10 miler proved it was still hellish but the weather helped make it a little less hellish.  There were some impressive placings with the Hayle women’s team taking first and the men bringing home third, as well as a swathe of category prizes. The full round up can be found in the Hayle Runners Facebook page March post.

The Cousin Jack Classic on March 8th saw Andrea Harvey, Michelle Fitt, Paul Gough, Stephanie Langley, Hannah White, John James, Arianna Caddy and Neil Hayhurst take on an 18-mile point to point race between St Just and St Ives. A stunning and demanding part of the coast path.

Going the ‘extra mile’ was Ian Seabury, who tackled the Cousin Jack Ultra – that’s the Classic – TWICE. Twice the mud, twice the hills and a mere 7000+ feet of elevation.

On March 9th our Grizzly Cub was Andrew Searle, completing the 9-mile race in Seaton. It was a case of ‘Who let the bogs out’ (this year’s Grizzly theme) for Andrew James, Yelda Muge-Parsons and Susan Thomas who completed the full 20-miles of this tough multi-terrain ‘Grizzly’ challenge.

A busy day for Hayle Runners, March 9th also saw Daniel Costello, Clem Mitchell, Jon Eldon, James Manning and Jamie Richards take part in the Bideford half marathon.

Whilst Tracey Radley, Jo Smitheram and Helen Staples entered the Granite Way 10 miler in Okehampton. Curtis Hayes also put in a cracking effort that day at the Chester 10k.

There truly was a Green Army in attendance at the Bath half marathon on March 16th with 20 Hayle Runners taking part in this two loop race. Congratulations to Peter Barnes, Charlotte Bennett, Hels Cattran, Theresa Clark, Helen Cuthbert, Julie Frost, Kathryn Galbraith, Laura Haghani, Emma Johns, Sarah Johns, Ross Keeler, Stanley Marsden, Nicola Masters, Jordan Morant, Tom Rosenfeld, Rosanna Whitton, Ashley Williams, Heather Wilson, Nick Morley, Ian Curnow.

Closer to home a whopping 40 Hayle Runners took on the Falmouth half marathon.

The men’s team put in brilliant work to take first place – a huge well done to Steven Hagan, Andrew Paroissien, Daniel Millington, Edmund Bennett, Liam O’Neill, and Neil Hayhurst.

The women’s team also put in a fantastic effort, taking second place! That team was made up of Melissa Nicholas, Fiona Gamble, Andrea Simmons, Corinne Gerrard, Julie Towers, and Naomi Astill.

Mark Williams wasn’t part of the Somerset or Cornish crowd, as he was in foreign climes smashing at impressive result in the Barcelona Marathon on the same day.

On March 22nd Margaret Clark tackled the Cannock Chase Half – an unforgettable trail running adventure in Staffordshire.

Elsewhere that day, Liam O’Neill, Ian Curnow, Jon Eldon, Andrew Searle, Paul Gough, Fiona Gamble, Lee Tullett, Louise Ollivier and Julie Towers explored St Austell’s Skyline, running through St Austell’s clay mining heritage on a multi-terrain course described as varied, being both fast and challenging.

Liam O’Neill finished in 3rd overall place, and received a decent stack of ale for his efforts.

Hayle Runners was proudly represented by Nick Kelly on March 23rd for the Liverpool half marathon.

And ending March in sensational style was Rowan Muliss who took 1st in his age category at the Yeovil 10k.

Huge congratulations and great effort for a marvellous March of running.
