Hayle Runners April roundup

Europe was awash with Hayle Runners in April, as members travelled far and wide to compete in races abroad.

The month started in Prague where eight members of the club took on one of the coveted Super Half challenges.

Andrea Simmons took first in her age category, with Diane Warren coming third in hers. Timings were as follows:

Hayle Runners flew the Cornish flag in Berlin on April 6th for another of the Super Halfs. Jamie Gore, Paul Warmington, Kirsty Medlock, Bradley Medlock added another medal to their collections, but it was Lee Burford who completed the set with his final race of the series.

On the same day Plummy Phillips ran Lake Garda Marathon, and closer to home Sam Goodwin completed the Southampton Marathon.

The bright lights of the big city beckoned on April 6th for Sam Dixon and Karen Lovegrove, who both took on the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Karen completed the race in 2:26:18, while Sam Dixon added another medal to her year-long charity challenge aiming to run a half marathon every month in 2025.

Finally, on what was a busy day for Hayle Runners, Jake Summers finished the Battersea 10k in 37:29.

On April 13th a visit to Wales saw Daniel Costello finish Newport Half Marathon in 1:13:06, while Neil Hayhurst (2:48:18), Steve Hagan (3:00:00), Ian Curnow (3:08:53) took on the Newport Marathon as part of the same running festival.

Tony Rendle said bonjour at the Paris Marathon, completing it in 5:08:10 on April 13th.

Jon Eldon travelled through the Tunnel 10k on April 18th. A day later Paul Gough, Stuart Thomson, Ian Seabury, Ben Ferris, Jack Smith, Jared Sanderson, Jerry Cartlidge, Trevor Potter, Rachel Thomson, Roland Hardman, Hels Cattran and Hannah White proved they could ‘Run Like Hell’ taking part in the Bys Vyken Events challenge. Timings were as follows:

Andrea Simmons put in another phenomenal performance at the Boston Marathon on April 21st, completing it in 3:45:56 and taking first place in her age category (70-74).

Back home in Cornwall Diane Warren, Naomi Connon, Marlene Grobler, Chris Butler completed the Easter Cracker the same day.

All eyes were on London on April 27th where 17 Hayle Runners took on the world’s most popular marathon.

Not to be outdone, Diane Warren took gold at the European Duathlon Championship, completing the 10km run, 40km bike, 5km run in 2:43:36.

Elsewhere, up North Claire Stone (05:32:38), Frazer Humbles (03:43:23), Dan Heather (03:37:03), Nick Peters (04:22:28), Curtis Hayes (03:24:37) and Jamie Richards (03:52:28) took on the Manchester Marathon.

April 27th turned out to be a busy day, as Kate Frame (01:44:14), Jared Sanderson (01:49:57) and Jo Smitheram (02:13:26) tackled the Wadebridge Triathlon. Well done to Kate taking second place in the open category.

Finally that day, David Wilding finished the Coventry Half Marathon in 1:41:58, rounding off an impressive April of activity from Hayle Runners.
