Just a few bumps at Tywarnhayle 10K

A race last year known for bogs, rivers and rain, this year the Tywarnhayle 10k treated competitors to kinder weather turning the course into simple streams and insane ascents.

Number four in the Multi-Terrain Race Series, this challenge was completed by 31 Hayle Runners.  An impressive Green Army turnout from the 220 who took part overall.

Starting from Mount Hawke Cricket Club, Tywarnhayle 10k is renowned for its challenging coastal path, technical trails, and scenic views. One mammoth ascent is lovingly referred to as ‘the goat’ due to the fact you’d be better placed as a mountain goat than a trail runner to get to the top.

The first Hayle lady to cross the finish line was Jennifer Forbes, with a time of 1:12:57, whilst it was Ian Curnow as the first Hayle male in 52:42. Forever impressing and winning his age category was Jon Eldon in the 65-69 age group in just 53:17.

Returning to racing after an injury was Sarah Ellis, who didn’t make life easy for herself by taking on this challenging course. She crossed the finish line with run leader, Sam Robinson, both smiling in true Hayle Runners style.

Personal Bests

There were some impressive improvements for several Hayle Runners compared to 2024. Debbie Gossington finished last year in 1:53:29, but this year crossed the finish line in 1:38:15, that’s despite taking a major tumble during the course and hurting her knee.

Jennie Massey also knocked a solid 11 minutes off her 2024 time. Paul Gough had a 30 second PB, holding a consistent improvement after knocking over 11 minutes off his time between 2023 and 2024. There was success for Suzie Smith who knocked a chunky seven minutes off last years’ time. Julie Frost managed a 43 second PB and Susan Thomas shaved almost 30 seconds off her 2024 achievement.
