The “Cornish flat” of the Marazion 10K

Dozens upon dozens of Hayle Runners donned their green vests to take part in this year’s Marazion 10K.

Hosted by Hayle Runners the event saw a chart-topping 82 members from the club turn out to support the race.

They were joined by 390 competitors from across the county and beyond to take part in this popular all road, one loop race.

The horizontal rain and storms of 2024 were a distant memory on Sunday, as the sun shone down providing deceivingly hot conditions.

With 131m of elevation the Marazion 10K is referred to as a ‘Cornish’ flat race, with the delights of an uphill finish to the cross the red finish line.

And as the final race of the season in now in sight, Hayle Runners were determined to show their might for this the 13th race in the Cornish GP series.

Sweeping into second place, Hayle Runner’s men’s team celebrated silver thanks to Edmund Bennett, Stanley Marsden, Francis Malone-Lee, Max Davies, Jack Newman and Jon Eldon.

Hayle ladies proudly took third position thanks to Fiona Gamble, Tear lily, Arianna Caddy, Anna Goodman, Catherine Barnes and Flo Davies-Kirsop.  Catherine is a new addition representing Hayle Runners for the first time – she’s definitely one to watch!

There were plenty of age category prizes to celebrate for club members, with Jemma Kearney taking bronze in the under 20s, Fiona Gamble taking bronze in the 40-44 category and Diane Warren smashing first place in the 70-74 age category.

Meanwhile the men weren’t to be outdone. Edmund Bennett took gold in the 45-49 category, Francis Malone-Lee took bronze in the 45-49 category, Ian Curnow also place third in his category – age 55-59. Perhaps more impressive was that Ian also managed to cross the line in the exact same time as his 2024 result, 41:50.

The inimitable Jon Eldon continued his golden streak, getting a PB for this year’s race, clinching first palce in the 65-69 category. He managed to shave 34 seconds off between 2023 and 2024, but 2025 saw him leap forward by almost three whole minutes with a time of 40:52. Rowan Mulliss also celebrated success with bronze in the 70-74 category.

It wasn’t all about the placings though, there were some impressive efforts across the board. Melissa Nicholas and Neil Hayhurst hurtled down the A30 after completing the Barnstaple marathon in the morning to complete the Marazion 10K in the afternoon!

Sophie Greenaway was another new member donning green for the first time and got a PB for her efforts.

With so many Hayle Runners competing in a race run by their own club, there was bound to be some impressive efforts and with that some brilliant personal bests – not just for this race, but for their own running.

Soraya Williams, Sophie Greenaway, Fiona Gamble, Teigan Turner, Flo Davies-Kirsop, Darren Uren, Jack Smith, Arianna Caddy, Laura Haghani, Suzie Smith, Sam Collier, Dave Guffick, Lisa Claire, Jon Eldon, Bridget Lewis, Mark Squire, Helen Squire, Ellen Regan, Mel Burgess, Anthony Burrows, Alfie Cuthbert, Cas Leo, Stanley Marsden, Todd Reynolds, Ashely Williams and Dave Gill all deserve congratulations for PBs. A big shout out to Tear Lily who knocked a whopping 11 minutes 24 seconds off last year’s time.

“The PBs and the medal winners will of course be celebrating, but every single runner who took part deserves to be celebrated. Whether you were faster, slower, taking part for the first time or the last time, the success of Marazion 10K is down to the people who take part.”
