Hayle Runners double team victory at Treggy 7

Hayle Runners continued their strong Cornwall Grand Prix campaign with victories in both the men’s and ladies’ team competitions at Treggy 7, while Emma Paull claimed her second overall ladies’ victory in successive Grand Prix races.

Thirty-six Hayle Runners completed the challenging seven-mile road race on Sunday, organised by Launceston Road Runners as the 12th event of the 2026 Cornwall Grand Prix series.

A month after winning Sticker 5, Paull once again led the ladies home – although this time she gave herself an additional challenge by only just making the start.

Having arrived as the race was getting underway, Paull was forced to work her way through the field before eventually crossing the line in 45:05. She finished 19th overall and was the first lady home, as well as winning the Female 40-44 age category.

Paull’s performance led another successful outing for Hayle’s ladies, with Gail Aspden, Tear Rogers, Fiona O’Neill, Corinne Gerrard and Emily Bennett joining her in the scoring six as the Green Army claimed first place in the ladies’ team competition.

The men’s team also returned home with victory. Daniel Millington led Hayle home with an excellent fifth-place overall finish in 41:43, followed by Francis Malone-Lee, Liam O’Neill, Neil Hayhurst, Jake Summers and Steven Wherry to complete the winning six.

There was plenty of individual success to accompany the two team victories, with Hayle collecting nine age-category prizes.

Alongside her overall win, Paull took first place in the Female 40-44 category, with Fiona O’Neill third in the same age group. Gail Aspden finished second in the Female 55-59 category.

For the men, Daniel Millington took third in the Under 35 category and Liam O’Neill was third in the Male 35-39s. Francis Malone-Lee won the Male 45-49 category, Ian Curnow took third in the Male 55-59s, Steven Wherry won the Male 60-64 category and Jon Eldon claimed another victory in the Male 65-69s.

Margaret Clark was among those celebrating an improvement on previous appearances at Treggy, recording an excellent new course personal best.

“Emma apparently decided that simply racing seven miles wasn’t enough of a challenge, so added getting to the start at the last possible moment and working her way through a field of several hundred runners. To still come away as first lady is a remarkable performance.

“More broadly, winning both team competitions is another excellent result for the club. We’ve had some very strong performances throughout this year’s Grand Prix, but what continues to stand out is the depth across both teams. Nine age-category prizes on top of the two team wins made this another very successful trip.”
