Hayle Runners enjoyed an exceptional day both on and off the road as a sell-out field descended on Marazion for the penultimate race of the 2026 Cornwall Grand Prix season.
All 550 places for the Marazion 10K had been snapped up ahead of race day, with 505 runners taking to the start line on Sunday, September 27. Among them were 87 members of the host club, who produced one of Hayle’s strongest performances of the season with both individual race victories, first and third places in both team competitions and 18 age-category prizes.
The single-lap road course is deceptively simple on paper – three left turns and 10 kilometres – but packs 131 metres of elevation into its journey through the countryside surrounding Marazion. Following a downhill start, runners faced rolling roads through Plain-an-Gwarry, Chynoweth, Penberthy Cross and Gwallon before the final uphill push to the finish at Marazion Community Hall.
Initially overcast conditions soon gave way to warm sunshine, adding another challenge to the undulating course.

Farmer and Paull lead the field
Hayle’s Sam Farmer claimed overall victory in 34:24, finishing 26 seconds ahead of Newquay Road Runners’ Dan Rodgers in 34:50. Hayle’s Francis Malone-Lee completed the men’s podium in 35:20, earning his first overall Grand Prix podium.
Emma Paull continued an outstanding run of form to claim the ladies’ title in 37:42, finishing 11th overall. Sarah Hoskin of Mile High was second lady in 38:29, with Hannah Harrison third in 40:39.

The host club’s strength in depth was equally apparent in the team competition.
Hayle Runners won the men’s competition with Sam Farmer, Francis Malone-Lee, Daniel Millington, Amar Musneckis, Kyle Hampton and Neil Hayhurst combining for just 33 points. Cornwall AC took second, while Hayle’s second team of Steven Wherry, Jon Eldon, Craig Pound, Ian Curnow, Samuel Little and Mark Williams secured third.
It was a similar story for the ladies. Emma Paull, Arianna Caddy, Gail Aspden, Ruby King, Tamara Kearney and Tear Rogers took victory ahead of Cornwall AC, while Hayle’s second team of Octavia Carey, Andrea Simmons, Amy Greef, Corinne Gerrard, Maddy Knowles and Julia Burns completed the podium in third.
Success throughout the field
Hayle’s 87 finishers comprised 46 ladies and 41 men, with the club also collecting 18 age-category prizes.
For the ladies, Arianna Caddy took third in the 20-34 category, while Paull added the 40-44 victory to her overall title. Gail Aspden finished second in the 55-59 category, Julia Burns won the 60-64s, Margaret Clark was second in the 65-69s, Andrea Simmons won the 70-74 category and Timothea Cardell claimed the 80+ title.
Hayle swept the men’s 20-34 podium through Daniel Millington, Amar Musneckis and Kyle Hampton. Farmer won the 35-39 category, while Malone-Lee and Neil Hayhurst took first and second in the 45-49s.
Ian Curnow finished third in the 55-59 category, Steven Wherry won the 60-64s and Jon Eldon the 65-69s. Chunky Penhaul was second in the 75-79 category, with Stewart Townend second in the 80+ category.
The day produced plenty of stories beyond the podiums. Octavia Carey made an impressive Hayle debut, recording a personal best and immediately earning a place in the club’s second ladies’ team. Craig Pound also celebrated a PB while making his first appearance in a Hayle men’s scoring team, while Maddy Knowles made her first ladies’ team appearance.
Julia Burns marked her return to racing after six years with a place in the third-placed ladies’ team and victory in her age category, while Abi Redfearn completed her first 10K in a Hayle vest.

Months of work behind race day
While 87 Hayle Runners were competing, many more club members spent the day helping deliver the event, with volunteers involved in everything from course setup and registration to marshalling, road closures, the finish area and presentation.
Race director Jamie Gore led the extensive preparations behind the event, supported by a large team of club volunteers.
“There aren’t many days when you can organise a race for 550 people and somehow also come away with both individual winners, both first teams and both third teams on the podium. I’m not sure we could have asked much more from the day.
“Sam and Emma were superb at the front, and seeing Francis earn his first GP podium was particularly pleasing, but the strength throughout the club was just as impressive. Eighty-seven Hayle runners finished, with people racing right across the age groups and plenty of PBs and firsts along the way.
“None of that happens without the other side of the club, though. An event of this size takes months of preparation and an enormous number of people giving up their time. From the people standing on junctions and setting up the course to those working behind the scenes long before anybody pins on a race number, we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the day possible.”
Richard Collett
Club Chairman
The club also thanked race adjudicator Neville Witham for his support and Marazion Mayor Richard Stokoe, who joined organisers for the presentation and helped hand out the prizes.
Hayle Runners extended its thanks to the residents and wider Marazion community for their patience and support while the race and associated road closures took place.
The event was again supported by St Ives Brewery, Heyl CrossFit and Bradleys Estate Agents, with Bradleys sponsoring the race mementos and supporting the event, St Ives Brewery providing adult finishers with a can of low-alcohol Slipway IPA, and Heyl CrossFit providing membership prizes for age-category winners.
Florence Sargent of RED-Scue was also on hand to speak with runners about sports fuelling, while The Cornish Barista and Mr B’s Ice Cream provided refreshments at race headquarters.
Daniel Wheeler once again was on hand to photograph the race, capturing runners around the course and at the finish.
Hayle Runners would like to thank every runner, volunteer, marshal, sponsor, supporter, local resident and organisation who contributed to the 2026 Marazion 10K.
