The Memorial Handicap race is a 10k on the Marazion 10k route that we run in December for a bit of fun to compete for the Malcolm Date Challenge trophy.
The twist is that fancy dress is enforced, easy outfit choices are penalised, and it’s a staggered start with faster runners starting last – often 35 minutes behind the first starter.
15 members competed this year in conditions that were unusually pleasant for December.
The results are as follows:
1st: Helen Squire as an elf in 1:13:53
2nd: Mark Squire as another elf in 1:15:15
3rd: Lee Burford as Hulk Hogan in 1:19:03
Winner of the best dressed went to Kate Frame for running as Nanna/Nora Batty/Her “75 year old self.”
A special congratulations go Jack Eadie for not losing his beer on the route.
Huge thanks to Phil Rowe and Fiona Ruetsch for helping with the timing, Jen Forbes from St Ives Bakery for the post run pasties (which went down a treat), Trevor Cornish for photos and Stuart Smith for lead bike (because “three lefts” as directions go can be confusing in fancy dress).
