The private estate of Boconnoc was home to the beautiful MTRS trail race which saw 16 Hayle Runners take part – with some amazing results.
The eight men and eight women of the Green Army travelled to Lostwithiel on May 6th to run around the stunning grounds of this five mile course.
This is an undulating route with steep hills, fields, woodland and the delight of some sweet downhill tarmac just before mile four. The perfect way to prepare you for a monster steep climb before hitting the final half a mile towards the finish line.
Liam O’Neill came in as third male overall, holding his strong tradition of excellence in this race, after he finished fastest Hayle Runner in 2025. This year he also took gold in the 35-39 age category with an impressive time of 31:22, shaving off a chunk compared to last year’s 32:04 finish.
There were also first place podium finishes for Ian Curnow in the 55-59 group and Jon Eldon, staying in the top spot in the 65-69 age category. Jon knocked more than two minutes compared to 2025, this year finishing in 35:17, after last year’s race time of 37:41.
Deborah Sturges returned strong this year, last year was her Boconnoc debut where she took bronze in the 65-69 age group – which she clinched again this year, with a time almost identical to 2025.
Hayle Runners coach, Melodie Manners was a fantastic second female overall, winning her 35-39 age category.
