Hayle Runners came out in force at the weekend as 63 of our members travelled to Falmouth to take part in the five mile Mob Match race. That means that green vests made up just over 20% of the total field of 296 runners!
The route for Mob Match takes participants around Pendennis Headland, along the sea front, and around Swanpool, before returning to Cliff Road for the finish. Despite some very threatening skies and a few quick showers, the morning stayed largely dry. There was lots of support along the route which was appreciated by everybody who took part.
The race is primarily a team competition with small, medium, and large teams all represented, and no official age category prizes. Hayle was (perhaps unsurprisingly) in the large team category where the men’s team, comprised of Neil Hayhurst, Jordan Morant, Adam Gore, Peter Barnes, Thomas Rosenfeld, Edmund Bennett, Simon Jeffs, Dominic Turton, Liam O’Neill, and David Guffick took first place!
The ladies team did excellent work as well, coming in second. That team was made up of Melodie Manners, Kirsty Medlock, Corinne Gerrard, Naomi Astill, Hannah Smith, Kathryn Galbraith, Andrea Simmons, Jennifer Forbes, Alison Thomas, and Diane Warren.
Once the team prizes had been given out it was over to the very important job of celebrating the efforts of everybody who took part in the Cornish Grand Prix race series this year.
Both men’s and ladies’ teams put in very strong performances overall. Across the GP series, the Mens team won five first places, five second places and one third places and came second in the series overall (by one point!). The Ladies team took home three first places across the series, with five second places, and four third places, which meant they also did excellently, coming in third overall!
In addition, trophies were awarded to runners who completed either thirteen or eight total GP races, and lots of members walked away with those prizes as well, which is a huge achievement in itself!
Runners from Hayle received several age category prizes, so a huge well done to:

In addition, trophies were awarded to runners who completed either thirteen or eight total GP races, and lots of members walked away with those prizes as well, which is a huge achievement in itself!
“Our mens team taking first and the ladies team taking second was the icing on the post-run cake to an exciting GP season. A great year of training and hard work has really paid off for our runners this year and we’re all looking forward to what the 2024 season brings when it starts in January.”
