Hayle Runners claim double team bronze at Rosemullion 10K

Hayle Runners secured third place in both the men’s and ladies’ team competitions at the Rosemullion 10K on Sunday, October 25, adding eight age-category prizes and several impressive course personal bests to another successful outing in the Cornwall Multi Terrain Race Series.

Organised by Falmouth Running Club, the race was the sixth fixture of the 2026/27 MTRS season and took runners along the coast path and trails surrounding Rosemullion Head, overlooking the entrance to the Helford River.

The picturesque setting provided little relief from a demanding course, with approximately 325 metres of climbing and a mixture of muddy trails, fallen leaves, technical descents and steep hills testing runners throughout the 10 kilometres.

Twenty-seven Hayle Runners took on the challenge, with Liam O’Neill leading the club home in seventh place overall in 45:43.

O’Neill was joined by debutant Macourey Brooklyn (48:31), Mark Williams (50:01) and Andrew James (50:11) in the men’s scoring quartet, securing third place in the team competition.

Brooklyn made an immediate impression on his first appearance in a Hayle vest, finishing 14th overall and helping the club onto the team podium.

The ladies matched the men’s achievement, with Melodie Manners (56:13), Florence Davies-Kirsop (56:35), Julie Towers (1:05:15) and Sarah Thomas (1:11:02) combining to claim third place.

It was a particularly pleasing result for Thomas, who earned her first appearance in a Hayle ladies’ scoring team.

The club also collected eight age-category awards.

Among the ladies, Towers finished third in the Female 60-64 category, while Margaret Clark won the Female 65-69s, with Deborah Sturges taking third in the same category.

O’Neill finished second in the Male 35-39 category, while James claimed third in the Male 45-49s.

Williams won the Male 55-59 category, with Craig Underhill taking third, while Jon Eldon secured victory in the Male 65-69s.

Course improvements

There was further encouragement throughout the field, with several runners improving on their previous performances at Rosemullion.

Olivia Henwood recorded the biggest improvement, taking more than six minutes off her 2025 time.

Andrew James and Florence Davies-Kirsop both improved by approximately three minutes, while Frazer Humbles knocked almost two minutes off his previous best.

Todd Reynolds also improved on his 2025 performance, while Susan Thomas continued her recent run of course PBs with another improvement.

The results reflected another strong showing from Hayle across the demanding multi-terrain series, with the club’s success extending well beyond the leading runners.

“After recent storms and strong gusts, Hayle runners were blessed with blue skies, sunshine and beautiful views for Rosemullion 10k. Another challenging and technical race including mud, technical terrain, climbs and steep downhills.

“With success for the men’s and women’s teams both taking 3rd place on respective podiums and 8 age category prizes, Hayle runners came away feeling proud.

“A great event from Falmouth Running Club, thanks to all involved for hosting. Something different for prizes, with lovely socks that we’re very well received. A great Sunday for the Green Army”
