In addition to taking part in Falmouth Half at the weekend, Runners from Hayle have been travelling around the South West and abroad completing all manner of distances in varying conditions over the past couple of weeks.
On the weekend of 9th and 11th of March, Scott Abraham and Mark Williams travelled to Spain to complete the Barcelona marathon. Scott completed the race in 3:25:42 and Mark came in in 3:24:27. Both phenomenal efforts!
A group of runners also made the trip to Devon to complete the Bideford Half Marathon. The Bideford Half is also referred to as ‘the swift half’ as the route includes around 6 miles of the Tarka Trail.
The runners from Hayle completed the race in the following times:
Sarah Allen – 2:03:10.2
Naomi Astill – 1:46:00.2
Helen Cattran – 2:24:49.9
Neil Hayhurst – 1:19:20.1
Emma Johns – 2:26:43.4
Sarah Johns – 2:43:01.4
James Manning – 1:30:14.0
Nicola Masters – 2:29:43.3
Kirsty Medlock – 1:39:30.1
Clem Mitchell – 1:29:29.9
Melissa Nicholas – 1:33:45.3
Andrew Searle – 1:44:02.6
Lydia Curnow and Naomi Connon completed the Polruan shuffle in 3:26:27 and 3:26:25 respectively.
The shuffle is a 12-mile trail race along the Cornish coastline from Looe to Polruan, so a super-tough challenge!
Then, on the weekend of the 16th & 17th, Another contingent of the green army travelled to Devon, this time to take part in the Axe Valley Runners’ Grizzly and Cub races. The Grizzly is a 20-mile off road race and the Cub is 9 miles. To quote the organisers, conditions were “the muddiest anyone can remember”. Well done to those who completed either course!
Completing the grizzly:
Chris Barrett – 03:02:42
Richard Collett – 05:31:07
Corrine Gerrard – 04:13:06
Liam O’Neill – 03:30:14
And the Cub:
Yelda Müge Parsons – 2:38:12
Richard Collett very kindly relived the experience and said “The Grizzly is a very appropriate name for this event and at least one member has returned having developed an allergy to the colour brown. Axe Valley Runners put on an amazing event and they’ve created a unique experience on both the cub and full Grizzly distances. The beer at Beer was a personal highlight and we look forward to returning next year once we’ve fully excised the filth from our running gear.”
We also had runners further afield taking part in the Bath Half Marathon, so a huge well done to:
Edmund Bennett – 1:23:51
Trevor Cornish – 2:06:30
Kathryn Galbraith – 1:57:34
And, just in case Runners from Hayle weren’t getting everywhere *enough*, another group also travelled all the way to Portugal to complete the Lisbon Half Marathon. The Lisbon half results are… less user friendly than some of the other races, so a list has not been forthcoming but suffice it to say everybody who went did incredibly well and, by all accounts, had a lovely time!
A huge well done to all of the runners who’ve been representing the club at home and abroad!
